At the beginning of May, 2013, myself and three others, launched a new app in the world of iOS. Sandra Molyneux, Erin Lockert, and also Sharon Leyne, and I have been working on this app for approximately a year.
Two years ago, my wife and I were looking to teach our kids more about the rich heritage the church has with Saints. Some of the more famous ones one thinks of: St. Mary, St. Paul, St. Christopher, things coming from my childhood. Since both folks are practicing Catholics, we wished to share this with our children. The trouble was, there just wasn’t much in existence that we found useful for our 3-7 year olds, that will wasn’t too graphic or very ‘modern’. It was also spread out all around us, and wasn’t easy to compile. Many of us wanted something handy, something that our kids could engage with.
Other Options
We had located a ‘Saint of the Day’ walls calendar. It was big, and expensive. I searched to have something that was interactive, and something that they would want to consider reading by themselves.
Two years later the app is in the app store and it is gaining a following. The reviews that individuals have had are positive, and constructive help is also been very helpful. We will try our best to make it the most useful and interactive app for Catholic kids, children and tweens.
The Saint of the day for Kids app is a great tool, we have observed, that gives you a kick off point to work from. I allows for printable pictures that could be colored, a short included prayer, and a great way of picking your favorites. It’s right there, on the new iPhone, or iPad, or ipod. We started it out at $0.99 for the initial 120 (every third day) and you’ll purchase other saints for the rest of the year for an additional. $0.99 cents.
You can pick it up right now, and it will be ready by the time you finish reading this article.
Saint of the day for Kids application provides you and your children access to many Saints lives.
When we launched it, the app was ad supported and features a lot of Saints (120+). There is an option to purchase other Saints (one for daily of the year) in the app for. 99. Just click Buy now, on any of the unavailable saints.
In a language that kids can easily understand, and appropriate for just about any age, we have compiled a Saint for everyday with the year. Each of the descriptions could be shared and posted to Facebook. You can print the whole page with any airprint permitted printer, if you don’t have an AirPrint printer you can email the description plus a thumbnail to anyone on your own device, including yourself.
Here is what the illustrations resemble. It is very easy, easy to colour. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t for youngsters, but it can possibly be. 2 – 10 years will like it. Here is a regional blogger that wrote overview of it.
Easy for Kids
The descriptions of the Saints written for kids to read, they are ‘clean’ put simply, there isn’t graphic descriptions of the death. We focused on what kids may want to know, for them, from their level. Saints weren’t perfect into their lives, and we wants our kids to wish to be like them. Using their faith, and deepening it.
